My “Nature Notebook” activity booklet.

A naturalist-style activity booklet for children to fill in during their adventures in the natural world. There is space to create their characters and record their observations from their adventures in Nature.

I have used this booklet as a guide for Nature exploration during Hey Nature trails/workshops. Below are some pictures from our adventures with Mytholmroyd Cubs as part of the PeatZine project, a community engagement project centred on the history and significance of Calderdale’s moors and peatlands. We ventured from Cub base camp at Blake Dean to explore the moorland habitat, keeping our eyes peeled for bogs and Sphagnum moss, then returned to HQ, where we imagined the “Bog Beings” who might live alongside the moorland plant community.

I also used this booklet as part of Hey Nature workshops at Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve with Time Out children’s summer activity programme run by Healthy Minds. We met Sphagnum moss with Gill Wrigley, Calderdale Sphagnum Project Officer, and imagined the moss monsters!
